Mark Driscoll on Election

Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle did a series called "ask Anything" in which he answered a series of questions. I haven't followed him much over the past 10 years and now I'm regretting it. There are many videos on youtube, he, like other pastors of large churches, comes under fire every now and then for what he says and does. Mark has a strong Calvinist/reformed leaning, which is exactly my background, though I'm not too vocal about it day in and day out. Here is a GREAT clip that really explains what the doctrines of election and free will are all about. He gets pretty fired up on this one!

I really do not see how the analogy of his daughter's near brush with a truck cast any meaningful light on the situation. Would Mark save all his children in danger of being seriously trucked? Would he allow some to be killed to demonstrate what an awesome father he really was? What criteria would Mark use to select which of his children would be spared? Would Mark suggest that had his daughter been hit by the truck that she would have deserved her fate. getting very excited about something is great but it doesn't make it right or helpful.
